TECHNICAL TOURS

On the afternoon of Day 3 – Wednesday June 19 – we will be offering 4 technical tours. These tours are extra to the registration fees, with the exception of the OVC tour which will be offered at no cost. Please note that the tours run simultaneously so an individual may only register for one tour. Register at the U of Guelph Conference Services website. There is an option to also purchase a tour ticket for persons associated with a registered delegate; the selected tour may be different. The buses will leave around 1:00 (lunch is grab and go) and return at 5:00 pm. Disposable boots and hand washing stations will be provided.

RESEARCH STATIONS TOUR

The Ponsonby Sheep Research Facility is home to 200 Rideau X Dorset breeding ewes. This facility is high biosecurity and the sheep are low risk for production limiting and zoonotic diseases, making them ideal for researchers. We will also visit the newly constructed Dairy facility incorporating the most up-to-date technologies. If there is interest, we can also visit the Elora Beef Research facility (feedlot and cow-calf). Tour will be limited to 20 people to maintain biosecurity. $45
SHEEP FARM TOURS

We will visit two farms. The first is a meat sheep operation, housed indoors (no use of pasture) and using accelerated lambing. The second farm is a dairy sheep operation. The tour will be limited to 35 people. $45
DAIRY GOAT FARM TOUR

We will select two dairy goat farms for touring. The tour will be limited to 35 people. $45
TOUR OF THE ONTARIO VETERINARY COLLEGE
Currently ranked the top veterinary school in Canada and consistently top 10 in the world (7th in 2018) (QS Rankings). We will arrange a tour of OVC including the newly upgraded small and large animal hospital facilities and the newly constructed Enhanced Learning Centre. We will also tour the AAVLD accredited Animal Health Laboratory and if there is interest, we can arrange for people to meet with individual faculty and veterinarians at the lab. There is no limit to participants but pre-registration is necessary to assure enough tour guides. This tour is no cost.
